The game has gone through so many changes, but today marks a milestone. Summit Drive has been submitted to the IndieCade Festival 2025. In this page, I will be breaking down the new things that have been added to the game. I will also be explaining the issues that I have encountered through both watching strangers play the game live on stream.
A version 2.7 has been uploaded to itch.io for public playtesting.
Game finally has a rough ending which will calculate the player’s time of completion. A height bar has also been added into the UI in order for players to know how high they are from the initial starting surface. The vehicle got some interior changes and windshield wipers have been added. There were some terrain changes as well.
While the ending of the game is still work in progress, the player will eventually be able to drive into the sunrise, followed by a collection of messages. Summit Drive would not be in its current state without these people and game:
Then the game will be able to loop back to the beginning or return back to the main menu.
I had one of my past professors, playtest the game. One of the responses were to add a mile mark at parts of the map so players can know how high they are. It can also help players know how much higher they need to go. It will encourage players and make them feel a bit more motivated in the moment.
My response to that: While I agree that mile marks will ease the player’s frustration, I believe that it can become quite a distraction to the environment they are driving on. While there is a direct path for players to take, I want players to explore the map. Therefore, I added a meter bar onto the UI instead so that players can see how high they are at all times. This will keep things concise.
